6 February 2011

Sofia, Bulgaria:  We said goodbye to John and Holly, Andrej's parents after a wonderful week in Belgrade. It was special to get to know the city where Andrej grew up, to walk in his footsteps, to listen to them chatting away in the Serbian language and to share in his family's unique experiences.
It was also quite an emotional farewell for all of us. We are happy that our "travel-family" is complete after all the months of dreaming and planning our adventure, but we do embark on a journey laced with uncertainties and questions - borders not crossed before and roads not traveled...
We are therefore thankful for a smooth border crossing from Serbia into Bulgaria and for a warmer journey - sunshine accompainied us and it is 6 degrees Celsius tonight - one of very few above-freezing-point-nights since we left Kandern 3 weeks ago.
We are in a budget-traveler's dream hostel in Sofia, capital city of Bulgaria: free dinner with a drink, and an eat-as-much-as-you-want-breakfast!
Camping is slowly edging in/onto the radar screen again as the temperatures are rising. All 4 of us are looking forward to be able to pitch our tents and sit under open skies, maybe around a campfire, enjoying Dutch oven or potjie meals.

Belgrade:
We are enjoying the hospitality of John, Holly and Andrej in a very cold Belgrade and are thankful that we can be in a cozy, warm apartment.

No news about Willie's visa application yet.
