15 April, Friday, Khartoum
Hugo wakes us up during the night looking for toilet paper. He feels nauseous and also has diarrhea. He throws up after which he says he feels better and goes back to bed. My stomach does not feel good either and I am very nauseous when I wake up. I cannot move and stay in the tent until the heat drives me to a canvas on the ground beside the car. Hugo has thrown up a few times and starts to feel better. I unfortunately cannot throw up so the process takes much longer for me. I manage to take a few sips of water or tea, but it makes me feel even sicker – not good, because of the throbbing heat.
The guys take a taxi to a church to watch the Whirling Dervishes whilst I remain on the ground. All I can do is turn from side to side like a roast on a spit. I drift in and out of consciousness and wake up when the guys return at 9:30 just to return to the tent. Hugo, fortunately is feeling better, but none of them have eaten anything during the day, because of the heat. Oh, may tomorrow be a better day!
